BEHIND THE PAGES

About Homecooked

Each issue of Homecooked takes you deep into a region of America you might never have visited—its landscape, its history, and the people whose kitchens have been shaped by both. The recipes and stories that fill these pages come straight from the source, so when you recreate them at home, you’re making them the way the locals do—the most authentic taste of a place you can get without being there.

“For me, diving into a new region makes me feel like I’m becoming part of a community. Learning about what makes a region unique by immersing myself in the industries, food-related history and cultures, and even personalities, truly makes me feel like an honorary member of the region

Jessica Lynne Henkle

Editor

“One of the most interesting things about exploring a new region for every issue is learning just how different the various parts of our country are. There are so many unique ingredients and food traditions that you’d never know about unless you lived there, and I love getting to share those stories.

“I’ve had the opportunity to travel through most the states with music production and playing in bands in the past.
What sets
Homecooked travels apart is that it take us to corners of the country once missed, instantly immersing us in local culture and allowing us to meet the community as if we were newcomers that moved to town, getting to know all the spots and seeing what makes these places so special.

“My favorite part of diving into a new region is exploring the different ways that people live and of course, eat! I love to see the community connections in smaller areas as well! I think living in a big city sometimes it’s hard to find that super localized community in food and it’s so invigorating to see in the smaller regions. I also love noticing little food staples- obvs the hatch chilis are STANDARD fare in NM. EVERYONE had frozen bags of them to get them through the season! That’s so cool and interesting to me!

Aubrey Hancock

Marketing Coordinator

“Travel is really just curiosity in motion—you go somewhere new and you almost always come back changed by something you didn’t expect. My favorite part of this work is that we get to experience that same feeling with every issue, and bring it back in a form that anyone can recreate in their own kitchen, so they feel like they know the place and the people who live and cook there, no plane ticket required.

Travel by Taste

Part cookbook, part travel journal, full of flavor.
In each issue, we’ll guide you to a new region—introducing you to the people, recipes, and traditions that define a place.

In Issue 06, you’ll arrive at the table in Louisville. Settle in, pull up a chair, and share a meal with a former horse jockey, a celebrity chef who calls the city home, and the neighbor who brings everyone together with her decadent desserts.

Why choose Homecooked magazine?

Shared Beliefs, Shared Meals.
Here are a few things we believe to be true—and you might, too:

1. Great recipes come from all kinds of kitchens.

Whether it’s a tiny apartment kitchen or a sprawling farmhouse setup, the recipes inside the magazine are made by home cooks who open their doors and share the dishes they hold closest to their hearts. It’s not about perfection—it’s about passion and the memories tied to the meals.

2. Print magazines will forever be cool.

The digital world is amazing, and we love it, too, but there’s something timeless about flipping through a beautiful print magazine. It’s a tactile reading experience, a break from screens, and a keepsake you’ll want to revisit again and again. Plus, no ads mean every page is intentionally designed for you.

3. Recipes with a story just taste better.

When you know the history behind a dish—who made it, why it matters, and how it’s been passed down—it adds a whole new layer of flavor. And when you make these dishes from the magazine, you’ll have a story to share along with the meal, a connection that brings the food to life.
