Dried citrus slices for fragrant holiday décor
December 5, 2025

SEASONAL SPOTLIGHT

Dried Citrus Décor

Whether draped across a mantel, added to a wreath, or used as ornaments, these dried citrus slices make beautiful and fragrant holiday season decorations! With just a few oranges and a bit of twine, you can create festive décor that feels both timeless and homemade—perfect for gifting or enjoying around your own home.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat the oven to 200ºF.

2. Wash and dry the oranges, then slice them into ½-inch rounds.

3. Lay the slices on a paper towel, and gently pat the tops to absorb excess juice.

4. Dust both sides generously with confectioners’ sugar. (This helps keep the color bright and vibrant.)

5. Arrange the slices in a single layer on an oven-safe baking rack, and set the rack in a parchment-lined sheet pan.

6. Bake for 4½ to 5 hours, flipping the slices every 30 minutes.

7. Remove the slices from the oven when they are nearly dry, and carefully transfer them to a cooling rack. Let them finish air drying on the counter until completely dry (no tackiness).

8. Once fully dry, string them using a needle and strong thread or twine.

9. Puncture each slice near the top and thread them together.

10. Add festive touches like cinnamon sticks, star anise, dried cranberries, pinecones, or pine needles between the slices for texture and aroma.
